Directions From Sedona

The drive from Sedona to Oak Creek Canyon is a short but beautiful one. In less than ten minutes, you’ll be admiring the views and on your way to an adventure that you’ll never forget. Travel north along Arizona State Route 89A, a route known by locals as one of the most beautiful roads in the area. In fact, you don’t even have to get out of your car to appreciate the views of Oak Creek, but you’ll surely want to get a little closer! As you leave Sedona, keep an eye out for some famous rock formations like Bell Rock!

Midgely Bridge

You don’t have to drive far outside of Sedona to reach Midgely Bridge, a particularly astounding overlook. It’s less than a five-minute drive from downtown Sedona. You’ll get a sneak peek of what you’re in for! The jagged rock faces that can be seen here are truly spectacular. You can even leave your car and hike down to Oak Creek from the bridge.

What to Do at Oak Creek Canyon

Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona is full of exciting things to do. You could spend an entire day simply admiring the scenery. The area is full of cliffs and waterfalls, as well as hiking trails and beautiful overlooks. Not to mention, Oak Creek is home to some of the best swimming holes in America. There are plenty around the canyon but it can require some hunting. If you see cars parked on the side of the road, investigate! When you’re in need of a break, the area offers picnic areas to relax and grab a bite to eat.

Continue to Slide Rock State Park

Eventually, you’ll reach Slide Rock State Park along 89A. What was once a remote apple farm is now a Top 10 Swimming Hole in the United States, according to the Travel Channel. To make the experience even more thrilling, this spot features a natural waterslide. The beautiful red rocks create the waterfall while algae growing on the rocks creates the fun, slippery ride that plunges you into the swimming hole. Additionally, you can find more swimming holes upstream if Slide Rock is too crowded.

Stop at Oak Creek Canyon Vista

There’s no better way to end your trip than with the Oak Creek Canyon Vista. This overlook is 30 minutes from Sedona but well worth the drive. You’ll find a birdseye view of the gorge that could truly be on a postcard. There are often small stands set up along the path with local Native American artists selling beautiful art and jewelry. This always provides a unique, special touch to every excursion! You won’t want to miss out.
